Introducing the 2023 Shapton RockStar Series
the pinnacle of ceramic sharpening performance.
This new lineup represents the culmination of Shapton’s unmatched mastery in sharpening technology, engineered to deliver razor-sharp, ultra-clean edges faster than ever.
About the Shapton RockStar:
Meet the Shapton RockStar Stone — the ultimate sharpening companion for every knife enthusiast. Similar in feel to the renowned Shapton Glass series but without the glass base, these stones come twice as thick, offering double the lifespan and value.
Note: The RockStar stones are magnesia-based, meaning they require a bit of care. Avoid soaking them, but keep them slightly hydrated — letting them dry out completely may cause cracks, just like parched earth under the sun.
✦ Splash and Go - The Rockstar stones do not absorb water like many other water stones do. This means that there is no soaking required prior to using them. Get them wet, and start sharpening. No time spent waiting for them to saturate.
✦ Fast Cutting - Rockstar stones sharpen fast. In our tests, they are among the fasting cutting of water stones, while The Kuromaku (Shapton Pro) seems to produced a faster result. Whether you are sharpening for yourself or for a customer, they are perfect for getting an edge sharp, and getting it back to work.
✦ Hard Wearing - No one likes the time spent flattening water stones, and while the Rockstar do need to be flattened, they require less flattening less often than inferior quality stones, saving valuable time for the professional or serious home sharpener.
What is the difference between the Rockstar series and the Shapton Pro series ?
The RockStar series comprises solid 10 mm sharpening stones, available as either standard models (with no case) or together with a stainless-steel case.
The KUROMAKU series comprises solid 15 mm sharpening stones, which come with a plastic storage case.
In our performance tests under a micro digital camera, the RockStar series produced a noticeably finer edge compared to the Shapton Pro, though it works at a slightly slower pace. The Shapton Pro, on the other hand, remains highly efficient and delivers results quickly.
So, if you prefer speed and efficiency, the Shapton Pro is your go-to choice. But if you’re after a finer edge and a sharper cutting feel, the RockStar is the way to go.
